Car Reliability
How Reliable is Your Car?
When one thinks about purchasing a car, the one thing that he must think about in addition to everything else is car reliability. It is true that recent years have seen a marked increase in car reliability, yet the variations that comes to the fore where reliability performance is concerned, makes it pertinent for buyers of cars to look for warranty.
Warranty could be understood as a type of insurance policy. So, if a part that is insured suffers a mechanical or electrical failure, warranty would cover the cost of replacement parts and labor. What warranty does is that it presents you with a soft cushion from unexpected costs that might result from a sudden breakdown of your car.
If you look at the UK insurance market, you would find that Warranty Direct and Motoreasy are the two main service providers. To give you an estimate how much it works, if you have a four year old Peugeot that shows 40,000 miles, it would cost you about 410$ to cover for one year. The current trend in the market is providing a three year warranty with a car but if you don`t get it by default, you can always get insurance separately. And once you decide that the one thing that you would have to consider would be your car reliability.
Warranty Direct has come out with a Reliability Index that is a comprehensive guide to the reliability of cars on the road. One of the most remarkable statistics of this report is the fact that about 25% of the cars suffer mechanical failure at some point between its 4th and 5th year. And yes, you guessed it right. That is the same time around which the manufacturers' guarantee expires. But before we jump to any conclusion, let us not forget that there exists considerable variation in car reliability.
We are going to have a look at the five best and worst performers on the road as per their reliability. Well the list goes like this-Ford at number 5, Suzuki at 4, Honda at 3, Mazda at 2 and Skoda at the top position. I know that the list might sound a little bit surprising to you but the result is based on extensive research and feedbacks from all around. Skoda not too long ago was thought to be utterly unreliable and an eye-sore but they have really put effort into it and the result shows. It is considered perhaps the most reliable car on the road.
As one critic called, it is practical as well as exciting, a combination very hard to match. Jaguar is one car which comes at a distant number 5. Jaguar has always been known for its looks and performance but where car reliability is concerned, well it fails to make a mark. But if you are more bent on looks and performance, it is your choice. At number four is the Land Rover. Most of the car experts claim that this is completely impractical and unnecessary car for city roads. And what is more, it scores very low on car reliability. And as the government is thinking of taxing high polluting vehicles, well Land Rover users might like to think of some other alternatives.
The same goes with Jeep and Subaru. Highly unreliable! But the one car that has actually grabbed the lime light where the lack of car reliability is concerned, it would surely be Porsche. If you have one, think of buying some other reliable car. If you need car reliability as well as performance, well Lexus would be the right choice for you. To recapitulate, go for Skoda for its reliability and go for a Lexus if you want performance and speed in addition to car reliability.
